The negative form — “don't / not”

The plain negative — the base for “please don’t”, “must”, and more.
たべない = don’t eat
い → わthe Group 1 twist
い-row slides to あ-row — and い itself becomes わ.
かいます → かわない
ここで たべないでください。
“Please don't eat here.”

How to make the ない-formないけいの つくりかた

グループ 1い-row → あ-row + ない
Only the い-row exception: い becomes わ (not あ).
グループ 2drop ます, add ない
These end in an い-sound and look like Group 1 — but they are Group 2. Still just drop ます.
グループ 3irregular (きます→こない / します→しない)
No rule — it is not きない but こない. Just memorize this one.
