NihonGo! is a free educational website. This page explains what data is and isn't collected. Plain summary first, then the details.

In short

We collect no personal information ourselves. There are no accounts, no logins, and no email signups, and anything you mark as a favorite is saved only in your own browser. The site does carry Google AdSense ads, and those use cookies — see Advertising below.

No accounts, no personal data

The site does not have user accounts. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying information. Nothing is sent to our servers about who you are.

Favorites are stored in your browser

When you tap the star icon to favorite a word, that information is saved in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data will erase your favorites.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own, and the analytics we use (described below) are cookie-free. The advertising described further down does use cookies, and visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before any personalised ads are shown.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are popular. It is privacy-first: it does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not collect any personal or identifying information. Only aggregate, anonymous data — such as page views, referring sites, country, and browser type — is recorded. There is no way for us to identify an individual visitor.

Advertising

This site displays ads served by Google AdSense. They sit below the content of a page and at the end of a column — never inside a lesson or a quiz.

Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites, and to measure how those ads perform. You can turn off personalised advertising at any time in Google Ads Settings, and you can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message before any personalised ads are served, and can decline. That message is provided through Google's certified consent management platform.

Third-party services

Apart from Google AdSense, described above, the site uses no third-party services that collect personal data. Outgoing links may take you to other sites with their own privacy policies; please review those separately.

Children

NihonGo! is suitable for learners of all ages and does not knowingly collect any data from children or adults.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of the page will be updated. Please check back periodically.
