The original SVG files retain their copyright and licence notices. We use their original paths and order. Our presentation changes colours, shows a writing grid and adds stroke-by-stroke animation. The derived stroke diagrams and animation are offered under the same CC BY-SA 3.0 licence; they may be reused under its terms.

These are handwriting-based diagrams. Printed fonts may look different.

Memory stories & artwork

The short memory stories are original learning aids, not claims about a character’s historical origin. Text and pictures are separate from the KanjiVG stroke diagrams.

The riverside-town background and the cat guides were generated with OpenAI’s image-generation tool on 29 September 2026. The cat guides and their celebration poses use the existing Fuji and Yuki designs as references.

Readings and handwriting notes

The readings of all 15 characters were checked against Kanjipedia (漢字ペディア). The readings are selected for introductory learning, not an exhaustive list.

Handwriting guidance: Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation: stroke endings. Our introductory diagrams are original schematic examples, separate from KanjiVG.

The planned 111 characters are an editorial selection for beginner learning, not an official JLPT list.
