Unit 39 · Phase K

Start your self-introduction

Time to put it all together! Phase K is your self-introduction. First, the two greetings every intro is wrapped in — はじめまして and どうぞ よろしく — and how to say your name.

Step 1

the greetings that bookend an intro

An introduction opens with はじめまして and closes with よろしく おねがいします. These are set phrases — just memorise them. 💡 You can add どうぞ in front (どうぞ よろしく おねがいします) to sound a bit politer; both are fine. 🔊 Tap to hear.

An introduction is wrapped in two set phrases: open with はじめまして (“nice to meet you”), then say a bit about yourself, and close with よろしく おねがいします (“pleased to meet you”). 💡 You can put どうぞ in front of it — どうぞ よろしく おねがいします — for a slightly warmer, politer feel. Plain よろしく おねがいします is perfectly fine to start with.

Step 2

giving your name

Say your name with わたしは [name] です — simple and friendly. You already know です from Phase A, so this is just a new use of it. 🔊 Tap to hear.

I / as for me
+
なまえyour name
+
ですam

Give your name with わたしは [name] です — “I’m …”. That’s all you need to introduce yourself. (You already know です from Phase A!)

Step 3

Say it in Japanese

Read the English, say it out loud yourself, then flip to check. These are the first lines of your own self-introduction.
