“…ing right now”& ongoing states
て-form + います says an action is happening right now. The same pattern also describes an ongoing state (where you live, a light that’s on, …).

いま ごはんを たべています。

“I'm eating right now.”
〜て います

Negative: “not …ing right now.” Just change います → いません.
It also describes an ongoing state — something true now.
Negative state: “doesn't / isn't …”. ⚠️ しっています is special — its negative is しりません.
