polite/formal language; honorifics
日本語のけいごは難しいです。—Keigo in Japanese is difficult.
honorific speech (used to show respect for others)
先生にはそんけいごをつかいます。—We use honorific speech for teachers.
humble speech (used when speaking about oneself to show modesty)
自分のことを話すとき、県じょうごをつかいます。—We use humble speech when talking about ourselves.
polite speech (general politeness using ます/です forms)
しらないひとにはていねいごをつかいましょう。—Let's use polite speech with people we don't know.
to be / to go / to come (honorific)
先生は教室にいらっしゃいます。—The teacher is in the classroom. (honorific)
to say (honorific)
先生がおっしゃったことをおぼえています。—I remember what the teacher said. (honorific)
to eat / to drink (honorific)
おきゃくさまはもうめしあがりましたか。—Has the guest already eaten? (honorific)
to say (humble)
わたくしはたなかともうします。—I am called Tanaka. (humble)
to go / to come (humble)
明日そちらにまいります。—I will come there tomorrow. (humble)
to do (humble)
よろしくお願いいたします。—I humbly ask for your favor.
knowing; being aware of (honorific use)
田中さんをごぞんじですか。—Do you know Mr. Tanaka? (honorific)
good; alright; fine (polite form of いい)
こちらの席でよろしいですか。—Is this seat alright for you?
